Karma
Karma is a simple and honest mobile provider. With Karma, you pay for data as you go, and take it with you on our 4G mobile hotspot. The more you share your connection, the more free data you earn.
In April 2012 me and the three co-founders joined the Techstars spring program for three months in New York. In these three months we build our first prototype. A few months later, in december we launched Karma.
My task as lead designer is to establish an aesthetic that fits Karma, the Simple & Honest mobile provider.
Marketing site
The homepage alone has gone through roughly 70 (big and small) design iterations. It’s a Rails app and uses High Voltage to serve static pages. The front-end is running on a highly modified Twitter Bootstrap and is written in HAML, SASS Compass, and Coffee Script.
Online with Karma
When a user connects to a hotspot the Karma captive portal pops up. This page is personalized based on the hotspot owner’s facebook profile and allows the connected user to login and get online in just a few clicks.
The page works on any Wi-Fi enabled device thanks to full responsiveness. It uses no front-end framework, typekit or extra requests to keep the load at a bare minumum.
Blog
For the Karma blog I designed featured posts, each with their own concept, look, and feel with a main focus on readability, content and responsiveness. It runs on Jeckyll that turns textile into markup and is written in HAML, SASS Compass and Coffee Script.
